Description:

ADTEK provided design services for this new, one-story 21,194-sf structure with occupancy of 162 children and support staff. The structure is a pre-engineered steel building. ADTEK provided design related to the foundation and exterior wall design, based on loads provided by the pre-engineered building manufacturer. The new facility meets the latest Anti-terrorism Force Protection, ADA and Architectural Barriers Act standards. ADTEK's specialty engineers provided design for structural cold-formed exterior framing as well as the design for a slip connection at the top of interior non-structural framing.

Civil engineering services included a site inspection and evaluation of existing conditions; review of all relevant zoning codes and design requirements and permitting of site improvements.

The civil scope included topographic and utility location and mapping surveys. Site design included demolition, landscaping, stormwater management, parking lot expansion and restriping, right-of-way improvements, ADA accessibility, pervious pavement, pedestrian access and circulation, W&OD trail realignment and signage/striping, loading access, sanitary service, waterline, and drainage improvements. Stormwater management design included 18 areas of pervious pavement and two underground StormTech chamber facilities. One facility, providing quality and quantity control, was designed to control offsite runoff coming from adjacent properties due to the demolition of an existing quantity-only stormwater management facility.

The campus accommodates parking and storage for a fleet of 200 buses, along with 581 employees and a fleet of heavy-duty maintenance vehicles. Building sizes are 100,000-sf+. The 12 buildings ADTEK provided structural design services for feature various structural systems including high bay steel framing, masonry and wood framing. ADTEK also had to design and relocate sanitary sewers, storm drains and waterlines. A road was extended and a stream relocated.

The design included foundation and roof framing, as well as exterior non-load bearing cold formed steel framing for the one-story building. The interior fit out design included interior cold formed steel bulkheads, RTU supports and the grade slab to accommodate interior fit out and walk in freezer installation.

The footprint of the library’s first floor is split by the right-of-way for the future Purple Line light rail station, resulting in a main building, with a “Pavilion” along Fenton Street. The main building features a vegetated roof and the roof of the “Pavilion” for stormwater management.

After the completion of the feasibility study, ADTEK continued to provide structural engineering services for the replacement Beach Elementary School which was built in several phases.

Description:

ADTEK provided civil engineering design services for a 13,338-sf addition to the existing 78,275-sf elementary school. The addition has a mix of support spaces, standard classrooms, as well as a new office/health suite. All of these spaces improved the school operation and eliminated the need for portables. The playgrounds near the ball fields have been upgraded. The asphalt surface play area was resurfaced. During the design of an 8,650-sf addition to the existing school, a need was identified to update the existing building’s HVAC system. ADTEK was asked to provide structural engineering services as required for that systemic upgrade to the existing building HVAC system.

Description:

ADTEK provided structural engineering services for the renovations and addition to Braddock Elementary School. The existing building consists of a 1-story structure of approximately 71,500-sf. Work included renovations to the entire 71,500-gsf building, plus a new 37,500-gsf, 1-story addition. The renovation work related to the existing building impacted the existing structure for interior renovations and HVAC upgrading purposes.

Description:

Montgomery County Public Schools planned to demolish the existing high school and construct on the same 25.42-acre site, a new 332,625-sf high school and a 101,430-sf technology school per a feasibility study dated July 2011. The proposed plan meant each school would have its own separate building which allowed construction to take place while classes were in session, minimizing disruption. ADTEK provided civil and structural services related to the design and construction of both the new high school and the new technology school. The buildings feature green roofs and were required to achieve a LEED Silver® rating. The Thomas Edison High School of Technology includes programs for automotive technology, construction trades, restaurant management, cyber-security, nursing, architecture, graphic design, and cosmetology. ADTEK was also required to include the addition of an approximately 25,150-sf 4th floor Junior Achievement program. Thomas Edison HS is Montgomery County’s central hub for career and technology education, serving students from each of the county’s 24 high schools.

Description:

This school is generally a repeat of the prototype school that has been done over the last 7-8 years. The school has a loop corridor on the 2nd floor that adds a corridor over the Media Center below. Structural work repeated existing prototypical documents (with the necessary changes for foundations, orientation, etc. and the new corridor) using REVIT.

Description:

In July 2017, Frederick County Public Schools solicited services for a feasibility study of Waverley Elementary School to determine “next steps” in the modernization/addition/replacement of the school. ADTEK provided civil and structural engineering services for the study which was completed in April 2018. Upon completion of the feasibility study, ADTEK provided civil design services to demolish the old Rock Creek building and replace it with the new Waverley ES in its place, allowing the existing Waverley ES to continue to operate during the construction process. The 131,000-sf, two-story building can accommodate up to 1,000 students. The building includes a gym that features a rock-climbing wall, a robotics lab, and a parent resource room.
